This is the first game that I have played that has actively stood in the way of me having fun. There were quite a few moments that had me on the edge of my seat in combat (mostly first encounters with new/boss monsters), and I thought that the voice acting overall was pretty solid across the board. I liked the sound track, the main character's relatively blunt/dry reaction to everything, and ¾ of the elemental archetypes for the spells. I have 100% this game in about 60 hours (but you could probably beat the story in no more than 20), and I can say that I enjoyed a decent amount of the experience.

The game itself offers neither nostalgia, scope, or innovative mechanics in order to justify that increased price.

Tl dr: This game got a lot of initial hate for being one of the first games at the new $70 price point along with it being a new IP.
